  • Continuous moderate rain occurred throughout the night on Sunday, causing very wet conditions. There were occasional periods of heavy rain and a safety stand down due to lightning for approximately one hour early Monday morning.
  • Recovery operations continued at three of the four ponds Sunday night. Crews utilized seven collection points. An alternate collection point between ponds D-3 and D-4 was paused due to road conditions in the rain.
  • Throughout the night, nine vacuum trucks pumped out the ditches along US 51 due to the rain event.
  • A total of 18 vacuum trucks operated overnight at the ponds for oily waste recovery.
  • EPA is using multiple skimmers to maximize efficiency in recovery, including felt drum skimmers and rope mop skimmers. The manta ray skimmers have been discontinued due to it no longer being effective under the current conditions of the ponds.
