Progress continues on the Roseland Incident Response. Through Sunday morning, we can report the following updates:
- Recovery operations continued at three of the four ponds Saturday night. Crews utilized seven collection points, as well as an alternate collection point to recover a pocket of oily water at the southeast slough between ponds D-3 and D-4.
- Standing water in the ditch along US 51 was removed via vacuum truck Saturday night in preparation for the incoming rain which is expected to start today.
- The EPA continues the 24-hour/day operation with 20 vacuum trucks operating overnight at the ponds for oily waste recovery.
- EPA is using multiple skimmers to maximize efficiency in recovery. Among the devices being used are Manta Ray skimmers, felt drum skimmers, rope mop skimmers, and hand screen skimmer. The foilex skimmer was discontinued due to it no longer being effective under the current conditions of the ponds.
- To date, 5,314,000 gallons have been shipped off for disposal.
- Sampling will be conducted today along the river (surface water, water column, and sediment sampling).
- Office hours event is scheduled today at the Tangipahoa Parish Fair between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
