Amite, La. – Tangipahoa Parish Government has been awarded a Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) Litter Enforcement Surveillance Camera Grant to strengthen local efforts to combat illegal littering and dumping through enhanced enforcement and surveillance technology.
The $4,800 grant, made possible through funding from the State of Louisiana and the Office of Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser, will enable Tangipahoa Parish Government to purchase surveillance cameras and related equipment to help identify individuals who illegally dump waste or litter, support investigations, and increase enforcement of Louisiana’s litter laws.
“This grant gives us another valuable tool to protect our community and hold those who choose to litter accountable,” said Robby Miller, Parish President. “The addition of surveillance cameras will strengthen our enforcement efforts, deter illegal dumping, and help us keep our roadsides, neighborhoods, and public spaces cleaner for everyone.”
The Litter Enforcement Surveillance Camera Grant Program is available to eligible public entities with the authority to enforce Louisiana’s litter and illegal dumping laws. In addition to funding, recipients receive technical guidance on camera selection, installation, operation, and program management to maximize the effectiveness of their enforcement efforts.
“Litter doesn’t belong anywhere in Louisiana, and those who intentionally dump trash should be held responsible,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “These grants give local law enforcement the tools they need to identify violators, increase enforcement, and send a clear message that littering has consequences. By working together with our local partners, we’re protecting the places that make Louisiana special and creating cleaner, more beautiful communities for everyone.”
KLB’s Executive Director Susan Russell explains the Litter Enforcement Surveillance Camera Grant is designed to help create new litter camera programs and enhance existing ones with not only funds, but also education on equipment selection, set-up, operation and tracking.
“Enforcement of the litter laws is a key part to getting a better handle on Louisiana’s litter problem. Gross littering negatively affects so many communities. This program will assist law enforcement agencies in their investigations and ultimately serve citations to the offenders.” states Russell.
