The first of two Old Genessee Road bridge replacement projects is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 24, 2026.
Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller said the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development plans to close Old Genessee Road approximately 1.1 miles east of US 51 (or 0.4 miles west of LA 1065) starting on August 24 and continuing for approximately six months as crews replace the existing bridge structure. The second bridge replacement between Jacobson Road and Spookhill Road (west of US 51) will begin later in the year, pending utility relocations.
“The project will be completed using funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL). These federal funds are administered through DOTD with the parish contributing additional local funds to support the project,” Miller said. “While it will create an inconvenience for residents in the Genessee area over the next several months, the community will truly benefit from a new, modern and safety-enhanced bridge.”
The two combined Old Genessee Road bridge replacement projects (one east of US 51 and one west of US 51) with a combined cost of $2 million are two of several bridge projects being completed across Tangipahoa Parish in partnership with DOTD and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development this year and next.
All work is weather-permitting, and detours will be posted.
