INDEPENDENCE—The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced today that LA 40 in Independence will be closed at the railroad tracks for approximately 12 hours on Thursday, May 11, 2023.
Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller said Canadian National has scheduled maintenance on the railroad tracks on Thursday from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m., weather permitting.
Both the left and right lanes of the railroad crossing will be closed while CN performs the necessary work. DOTD will have detours posted during this closure.
In other road work scheduled during the week of May 8, 2023:
- On Monday, May 8, Tangipahoa Parish Road and Bridge crews will be changing out a cross drain on Michael Road, located off Stepp Road in the Robert area. This roadway will be closed from 8:30 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m., weather permitting.
- On Tuesday, May 9, crews will be changing out a cross drain on Morgan Drive, located off LA 22. Work is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. and be completed by approximately 3:30 p.m., weather permitting.
- On Wednesday, May 10, Road and Bridge crews will be changing out cross drains on Harvey Lavigne Road at its intersection with Fire Tower Road in Robert. That roadway is scheduled to be closed from 8:30 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m.
- On Thursday, May 11, Tangipahoa Parish Road and Bridge crews will be changing out a cross drain on Milk Plant Road in Loranger. The closure is scheduled from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. at a location just west of its intersection with Elizabeth Street.
Miller reminds residents that the parish continues to compile a list of locations where utility wires are still hanging low, dangling, or even piled on the ground from Hurricane Ida. Miller asks that the email include as much information as possible about the location, such as identifying a 9-1-1 address or taking a photo of the issue to include in the email.
