Winter Weather Update (January 15, 2024):
- Light showers will spread across the area during the day on Monday. Small window for very light freezing drizzle Monday morning in southwest MS before temperatures rise above freezing.
- Light rain will begin to transition into freezing rain over the northwest and slowly work southeast through the night. Light accumulations are expected in the Winter Weather Advisory area, mainly on elevated surfaces like bridges, trees, poles and road signs, etc.
- Temperatures plummet overnight Monday night into Tuesday morning
- Dangerous wind chills Tuesday morning in the teens to single digits for southwest MS and portions of southeast LA mainly along and north of the I-10/12 corridor.
- Hard freeze possible across southwest MS and adjacent LA parishes
- Bitterly cold all day Tuesday, only briefly making it above freezing with cold wind chills persisting.
- Coldest morning Wednesday morning with lows below freezing for all of Southeast Louisiana and Southern Mississippi. Dangerous wind chills persist overnight.
- One more night of below freezing temps for central/northern areas Wed night/Thursday morning.
- Moderation continues into Thursday and Friday.
