Attached is an update with the latest on Tropical Storm Francine:
Changes from Previous Update:
- Tropical Storm Francine continues to weaken to now maximum sustained winds of 45 mph located well north of New Orleans, continuing northeast at 12mph
- The Tornado Watch has been cancelled for all areas.
- The Tropical Storm Warning has been removed for a few western counties/parishes, but occasional gusts to tropical storm force will be possible early this morning.
- Any additional flooding is not expected, but waters remain high from areas that saw flooding yesterday/last night.
Lingering Impacts:
- Residual/Lingering Flooding: Many areas that saw flooding from heavy rainfall yesterday and last night still have high water early this morning. Caution is highly advised for those traveling this morning to be cognizant of road conditions ahead of time and to NOT cross flooded roadways or cross road barriers.
- Storm Surge/Coastal Flooding: High tide is early this morning, with coastal flooding continuing for many areas. Waters will be slow to recede in the coming days, caution is advised.
- River Flooding: Many area rivers are now in minor to a few in moderate flood stage forecast due to widespread heavy rain from Francine. Please check the latest river forecasts at water.noaa.gov
Post-Storm Information & Cleanup Forecast:
- A Public Information Statement (PNS) was sent at 3 a.m. on 9/12/24 including 24 hour total precipitation and peak wind gust data.
- A more comprehensive post-storm hurricane report will be available at a later date.
- Today will see continuing improving conditions, with no additional heavy rain or flooding expected as Francine departs the area and continues to weaken. Winds will remain breezy today, but sunshine will return, likely remaining dry going into the upcoming weekend
