As part of the Tangipahoa Parish Multiyear Implementation Plan under the RESTORE Act, which dedicated funds related to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill to restore resources throughout the Gulf Coast region, the Parish conducted several projects to enhance public resources associated with the Tangipahoa River. Projects included a feasibility study for the dredging of the bar channel at the mouth of the Tangipahoa river and restoration of the Lee’s Landing Boat Launch.
As a result of the feasibility study the Parish beneficially used the material dredged from the river mouth to accelerate the natural land-building process that had already begun behind an existing breakwater project nearby. Restoration of the Lee’s Landing Boat Launch included replacement of the deteriorated launch with a new boat ramp, docks, walkways, and parking spaces.
