Tangipahoa Parish is no longer under a burn ban.
On Friday, at the request and recommendation of the parish’s local fire chiefs, Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller issued a memorandum, authorizing the parish to “opt-out” of the statewide burn ban.
After the recent rains, local fire chiefs agreed that it would be safe for the parish to lift the order, Miller said.
“I reserve the right to reinstate the ban at a later date, if conditions warrant,” Miller said.
The burn ban has been in effect since August.
Miller urges residents to continue to use caution when burning and to keep a water source or fire extinguisher nearby.
