HAMMOND—Prep work is expected to begin this week on a new sidewalk project that is planned on the west side of University Avenue and extends from Morrison Boulevard to just east of I-55.
Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller said Gulf States Services has been awarded the $3,026,341.51 project through the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development to construct sidewalks on both sides of LA 3234 (University Avenue) to Puma Drive (just east of I-55).
The project will involve a slight widening of the bridge just west of US 51 as well as some drainage improvements along the University Avenue corridor to accommodate the new sidewalks.
Miller said crews plan on installing construction signs and doing other pre-construction work during the week of June 24. Weather-permitting, work should begin the following week or immediately after the July 4 holiday.
Officials encourage motorists to exercise caution and patience while traveling through the work zones and while entering/exiting business along this route during the construction process.
