Severe Weather Update: May 19, 2026

Here is an update concerning the risk for a few strong to locally severe storms this afternoon into tonight: 

WHAT: Marginal Risk of Severe Weather

WHEN: This afternoon thru early parts of tonight.

WHERE: Areas near/north of a line from Baton Rouge to Tylertown.

CONFIDENCE: 

  • Pop up afternoon storms: Medium to high confidence in regards to location and the fact a few could be strong to locally severe from 4PM-9PM this afternoon/evening.
  • Main line of storms this evening into tonight: Low confidence, as there are indications this line could weaken, however, could still introduce a few strong storms for northwestern areas later this evening. Be weather aware in this period.

Impacts: The main threats associated with any severe storms will be:

  • Wind gusts greater than 60 mph that could down trees and powerlines.
  • Large hail of up to 1 inch in diameter.
  • Isolated areas of flash flooding caused by slow-moving or training thunderstorms.
