Here is an update concerning the severe weather threat today.

- No significant changes from the last update except things may be a tad slower
Overview:
WHAT: We have a MODERATE RISK or ENHANCED RISK of Severe Weather
WHEN: this morning and into the early evening hours.
WHERE: southeast LA, southwest MS, and coastal MS
CONFIDENCE:
- We are confident that there will be thunderstorms across the area and some will quickly become severe. We have less confidence in exactly when these will occur as but the main time frame would be late this morning through the afternoon.
Impacts:
The main threats associated with any severe storms will be:
Damaging Winds:
- Wind gusts greater than 60 mph are possible.
- Winds of this magnitude are capable of causing damage to trees and power lines, leading to isolated/scattered power outages
Large Hail:
- Large hail greater than 2 inches in diameter will be possible.
- Hail of this size is capable of causing significant damage to crops, cars, and roofs, and could be deadly to people and animals.
- The hail will be accompanied by strong winds, resulting in more damage than usual
Tornadoes:
- Tornadoes are possible and a few could be strong and/or long track
- There is potential for a significant tornado outbreak
Rainfall
Rainfall is not a major concern however, any storm will be capable of dropping a lot of rain in a very short time.
