Severe Weather Update: March 10, 2026

Here is an update concerning the severe weather threat on Wednesday:

Changes from previous update: The Slight Risk (2 out of 5 risk) area has been expanded south and east to now include the greater Baton Rouge area, Donaldsonville and Hammond.

WHAT: MARGINAL to SLIGHT RISK of Severe Weather 

WHEN: Wednesday evening into the overnight hours

WHERE: Southwest Mississippi and nearby adjacent parishes in Louisiana

CONFIDENCE: We have medium confidence that a line of strong to potentially severe thunderstorms will cross the area from Wednesday evening into early Thursday. However, timing remains low confidence, but we will be able to narrow down more detail tomorrow.

IMPACTS: The main threats associated with any severe storms will be:

  • Wind gusts greater than 60 mph that could down trees and powerlines.
  • Large hail of up to 1 inch in diameter.
  • A few brief spinup tornadoes are possible.
  • Runoff will lead to ponding of water in low lying areas and areas of poor drainage.
