Severe Weather Update: January 28, 2025

Here is an update concerning the risk for strong to a few severe storms Thursday Night into Friday morning,

Overview:

WHAT: A Slight to Marginal Risk for Severe Weather

WHEN: Late Thursday Night through Friday morning.

WHERE: Areas generally along and west of I-55, especially NW areas. 

Note: This lower-end risk could extend east early Friday in subsequent updates. 

CONFIDENCE: There is an overall LOW to MEDIUM confidence of severe weather late Thursday Night into early Friday morning.

  • Impacts: The main threats associated with any severe storms will be:
  • Damaging Winds: Severe thunderstorms will be capable of wind gusts greater than 60 mph.
  • Tornadoes: A few isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out.
  • Rainfall: Due to the likely quick speed of the line of storms, flash flooding is not a current threat at this time for the local area. However, can’t rule out minor flooding in isolated areas from intense rain rates. Rainfall totals of around 0.5 to 1.5″ can be expected.
