Severe Weather Update for Today: April 29, 2026

Here is an update concerning the severe weather threat for today:

Changes from Previous Update:

  • There is now a SLIGHT RISK for severe weather today – mainly across the northern Florida Parishes and portions of southern MS.
  • Timing for the first round today focused a bit more on mid-afternoon thru evening, and could last into portions of the early overnight hours.

WHAT:  MARGINAL to SLIGHT RISK of Severe Weather

WHEN: Mainly mid-afternoon through evening into early parts of the overnight hours.

WHERE: Greater concern for the potential for severe weather will be north of I-10/12 with the Slight Risk area.

CONFIDENCE: Increasing confidence overall, especially in the SLIGHT risk area. Less confidence to the south, and depends on how far (and strong or severe) the complex drifts south later this evening and overnight.

Impacts: The main threats associated with any strong to severe storms will be:

  • Damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 mph that could cause tree and powerline damage.
  • Large hail  up to 1″ in diameter cannot be ruled out.
  • A few isolated tornadoes will be possible.
  • Concern for storms training over the same areas north of I-10/12 will bring the risk for flash flooding.
