Severe Weather Update: April 9, 2024

Changes from previous update: There is now a MODERATE risk of severe weather, generally north of I-10

Overview:

WHAT:  Slight to Moderate Risk of Severe Weather.

WHEN: Tuesday night (slight to marginal) and Wednesday morning through Wednesday night (moderate).  Severe weather is expected to enter the area as early as 7-8 a.m. Wednesday and exit as late as 6-7 p.m. Wednesday evening.

WHERE: Areas mainly northwest of Baton Rouge on Tuesday night. All of Southeast Louisiana and Southern Mississippi from Wednesday into Wednesday night, with moderate risk north of I-10.

CONFIDENCE:  There is a possibility of strong thunderstorms in the area tonight, and forecasters are confident there will be strong to severe thunderstorms on Wednesday and into Wednesday night.

Impacts: Damaging winds and tornadoes are more favored, but areas of large hail are possible. High rain rates (locally 4-6 inches/hour) and associated localized flooding is also a concern.
