Here is an update concerning the severe weather and gusty wind threat Tuesday (Mardi Gras Day).

- We are much more confident of the timing of the severe weather
Overview:
WHAT: SLIGHT to ENHANCED RISK of Severe Weather and Wind Gusts 40-45mph outside of thunderstorms w/ peaks around 55-60mph.
WHEN:
- Wind – Morning thru late evening for winds
- Severe – Tuesday, noon to midnight.
WHERE: All of SE LA and S MS
- Severe Weather – Timing and location have come into agreement impacts starting on the west boundary of the area about noon and progressing through midnight on the far east side of the area.
- Gradient Wind – Confidence remains high in gusty winds over 40mph and up to 60mph regardless of storm development.
Impacts:
The main threats associated with any severe storms will be:
Damaging Winds:
- Wind gusts greater than 60 mph are possible.
- Winds of this magnitude are capable of causing damage to trees and power lines, leading to isolated/scattered power outages
Tornadoes:
- A few tornadoes are possible.
The main threats associated with the gusty background winds will be:
- Loose items could get blown away in the wind
- High-profile vehicles will have dangerous crosswinds
