Severe Weather and Heavy Rainfall Update: June 9, 2025

Here is an update concerning the severe weather and heavy rain threat today and Tuesday:

WHAT: MARGINAL RISK/SLIGHT RISK of Severe Weather and MARGINAL RISK/SLIGHT RISK of Excessive Rainfall.

WHEN: In rounds over the next couple of days. First round this morning. Additional development this afternoon and evening then more rounds of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and evening.

WHERE: All of southeast Louisiana and south Mississippi with greatest potential along and north of the I10/12 corridor.

CONFIDENCE: We are confident there will be multiple rounds of thunderstorms across the area from now through Tuesday night. We have low confidence in timing and how strong each complex of storms could be once it arrives into the local area.

Impacts:

The main threats will be:

  • Damaging Winds: Wind gusts greater than 60 mph are possible. Winds of this magnitude are capable of causing damage to trees and power lines, leading to isolated/scattered power outages
  • Large Hail: Large hail of up to 1 inch in diameter will be possible. The hail may be accompanied by strong winds, resulting in more damage than usual
  • Rainfall: In addition to the severe weather threat, heavy rainfall may cause localized flooding in low-lying and flood prone areas, especially locations that receive multiple rounds of heavy rainfall.
