AMITE—To better accommodate residents in need of sandbags in anticipation of Tropical Storm Francine, Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller announced today that ready-made sandbags will be available starting at 7 a.m. Tuesday (September 10) at the Florida Parishes Arena and the Pleasant Ridge Road Barn.
Miller said the parish has a limited number of ready-made sandbags available for residents in need at the Florida Parishes Arena, located at 1301 NW Central Avenue, north of Amite (right off US 51 south of Roseland).
On the south end, residents can pick up ready-made sandbags at the TPG Public Works office, located at 44512 W. Pleasant Ridge Road, east of Hammond. Distribution will begin at 7 a.m. at that location as well.
There is a limit of 15 ready-made bags per residential structure and 30 bags per business at these locations.
Miller said the parish has also set up 11 self-serve sandbag stations at rural fire departments located throughout the parish. Residents are asked to bring their own shovel; however, they may fill as many sandbags as they need from these locations.
