Progress continues in the Roseland incident response in Tangipahoa Parish. Here are some updated details of efforts thru this morning (Tuesday, September 2):
Just shy of 2.3 million gallons of product (2,293,494 gallons) collected. That number includes 2,192,442 gallons of oil and water and another 9,996 gallons of grease and water from the Smitty’s site. There has been an estimated 69,846 gallons removed from the Tangipahoa River utilizing skimmers and MARCO boats. Crews have also removed 21,210 gallons from Neal’s Pond.
Thru early Tuesday, there have been no overnight flare-ups with the fire. No water was sprayed overnight last night.
Work continues at the Roseland site today where crews are shearing tanks.
Recovery efforts continue along the river. Recovery efforts at the large pond continue with 24 hour/day collection operations.
There has been no change in air monitoring readings. EPA has set up a stationary network of air monitors with telemetry. No detections overnight.
No injuries have been reported since this incident began on August 22.
Parish President Robby Miller commends teams working on the ground and said he has “every confidence” in the work that is being completed.
