Today marks one month since the fire at Smitty’s Supply in Roseland. Through today, there have no reports of injuries during the event or in the subsequent response effort.
Liquid Recovery Totals through Monday morning include:
**On Site (Oil and Water): 3,246,474 gallons
**On Site (Grease and Water): 9,996 gallons
**Tangipahoa River (Skimmer): 103,047 gallons
**Tangipahoa River (Marco Boats): 72,744 gallons
**Pond D-1: 594,006 gallons
**Pond D-2: 558,474 gallons
**Pond D-3: 457,674 gallons
**Pond D-4: 87,360 gallons
**Pond C-2: 51,870 gallons
**Hwy 10 Bridge: 114,030 gallons
Total: 5,295,675 gallons recovered to date
Operations for today include completion of the frac tank farm on the facility footprint. The tank farm will move from north of the facility to the facility footprint. This is a preliminary step in being able to reopen US 51.
Flushing along the river continues from north to south.
To date, 1,897,300 gallons have been shipped off site for disposal.
EPA will hold “office hours” on Tuesday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. until noon at Lee’s Landing and from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Ponchatoula Branch of the Tangipahoa Parish Library. This is a great opportunity for residents to come out and ask questions about the response process.
As of today, response equipment and personnel who were staged at the Florida Parishes Arena have been moved.
