Roseland Incident Response: Sunday, August 31, 2025

Progress continues in the Roseland incident response and recovery effort. Among the updates we can report as of today (Sunday, August 31, 2025):
  • 24 hour a day operations continue. No injuries have been reported at any point during this incident.
  • Firefighting activities continue at the Smitty’s facility. While the fire is estimated to be 98 percent contained, there was a small flare up of cardboard yesterday, which was quickly extinguished.
  • Booming of ditches, ponds, and the river continue along the pathway of the spill. Recovery efforts along the river continue with boom being readjusted and added as material moves down the river. No materials has been found at the southernmost set of boom (just north of Lake Pontchartrain).
  • EPA is conducting 24 hour/day air monitoring. In coordination with local, state and federal officials, environmental sampling and analysis continues. Based on the date currently available, there is no indication of any imminent threat to public health from the soot or smoke residue deposited in the surrounding areas.
  • There are currently 277 workers representing, parish, state, and federal authorities plus expert-level contractors, who are on the ground responding to this incident.
