Tangipahoa Parish is proposing to extend its existing rock jetty breakwater project along Lake Pontchartrain using additional federal Restore funds allocated through the U.S. Department of Treasury, along with matching grant program funds from the Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA). This extension will add an estimated one mile of rock jetty west of the existing rock jetty to cover an area from the mouth of the Tangipahoa River westward to Pass Manchac. The estimated funds to be spent on the extension is $3,491,871 as an infrastructure project to protect the Lake Pontchartrain shoreline from erosion. A future shoreline protection project is also being planned for the area east of the mouth of the Tangipahoa River, using other funding sources. Engineering design fees will be paid for with local funds provided through GOMESA allocations.
If the public has any questions, objections, or comments to the proposed project, or wants more information, they should contact Missy Cowart with the Parish Government at (985) 748-3211, or may email questions or comments to [email protected]. prior to Sept 30th, 2019.
