Portion Of South Airport Road Closed First Full Week Of August; More On Overlay Projects

PONCHATOULA—A portion of South Airport Road will be closed for four days starting August 7 as work continues on the Hoover Road/Sisters Road roundabout project.

Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller said South Airport Road will be closed at a location approximately 400 feet north of the Hoover Road/Sisters Road intersection starting Monday, August 7, at 6:30 a.m.

This section of roadway will remain closed until approximately 6:30 a.m. on Friday, August 11, as crews complete a series of work, including the installation of two large cross drains.

Miller said that supply chain issues made it impossible to begin this work until August 7.

“While we had hoped to complete this work before the first day of school, supply chain issues limited our ability to get the necessary piping until the first full week of August,” Miller said. “This is earliest we can accomplish the work, so we ask for the public’s understanding and continued patience as work progresses.”

Miller said there will be much prep work in the area over the next two weeks to get ready for the cross drain installation. Crews will be receiving and staging materials as they arrive and work will continue over the next two weeks to install headwall footings for the cross drain pipe installation. Crews will also continue with the asphalt widening for this project.

In other road work across the area, the Phase 2023 overlay project continues to progress. During the week of July 24, crews will be working on the following assignments:

  • Paving: Schafer Drive, Jolene, Lynwood Drive, West Dutch Lane, Hickory Drive, George Fisher Drive, Cemetery, Pecan Allee Drive, Pecan Trace Drive, Bass Lake Trail, and Sun Perch Lane;
  • Dressing: Catfish Farm, Straughan Nursery Road, Chappapeela Road, J.E. Joiner, McManus Road, Pisciotta Place, Thomas Street, Nuccio Road, McGee Street, Northwood Crossing, Martino Lane, Iverstine Road, West Lee Hughes Road, College Drive, and Cherie Drive;
  • Patching: West and East Snowball Circle, Snowball Circle, George Fisher Drive, Kellywood Boulevard, Hollie Lane, Loyd Lane, Miller Lane, and Twin Lakes Boulevard.

All road work is weather-permitting. Detours will be posted, as necessary, and Miller encourages motorists to use care when traveling through work zones.
