Severe Weather Update: April 24, 2026

Here is an update concerning the severe weather threat tonight into early Saturday morning:

Changes from previous update:

  • The threat of severe weather has increased to a Slight chance
  • The area of greatest threat now includes the area generally north of I-10/12 and west of I-59.

Overview:

WHAT:  SLIGHT RISK of Severe Weather

WHEN: Tonight into early Saturday morning

WHERE: Generally north of I-10/12 and west of I-59.

CONFIDENCE:

  • We are confident that there will be thunderstorms across the area and that a few will be strong to marginally severe.
  • Weak tornadic activity cannot be ruled out.

Impacts: The main threats associated with any severe storms will be:

  • Wind gusts greater than 60 mph are possible.
  • Hail up to or slightly larger than 1″ in diameter will be possible.
  • A few weak tornadoes are possible.
  • Runoff will lead to ponding of water in low lying areas and areas of poor drainage.
