AMITE—Parish officials have closed a portion of Belle Gardner Road at the wooden bridge pending a structural review of the bridge.
Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller said officials are declaring an emergency road closure of the wooden bridge on Belle Gardner Road, located east of Amite, just before the parish line.
Miller said a tree has become lodged against the bridge structure, and as a precaution, the road will remain closed until the bridge can be evaluated to determine whether any structural damage has occurred. Once an inspection has been completed and the roadway is determined to be safe for travel, officials will issue an update for motorists, Miller said.
