Severe Weather Update: April 30, 2026

Here is Information concerning the severe weather threat Friday afternoon to early Saturday morning:

WHAT:  Marginal Risk of Severe Weather; Slight Risk of Excessive Rainfall leading to localized flash flooding;

WHEN: Friday evening to early Saturday morning 

WHERE: Severe weather is most likely generally south of I-10 and in the Mississippi coastal counties. Flash flooding is most likely generally north of I-10 and excluding the Mississippi coast.

CONFIDENCE: 

  • We are confident that there will be thunderstorms across the area and that a few will be strong to marginally severe.  We have less confidence in exactly where those strong/severe storms will occur.
  • We are confident that there will be periods of heavy rain that could lead to ponding of water in low lying areas and places prone to flash flooding.  We have less confidence of widespread flash flooding.

Impacts: The main threats associated with any severe storms will be:

  • Damaging Winds: Wind gusts greater than 60 mph are possible.
  • Large Hail: Hail of up to 1 inch in diameter will be possible.
  • Tornadoes: A few weak tornadoes are possible.
  • Rainfall: In addition to the severe weather threat, widespread rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is forecast. There is a chance of local amounts of 5 inches or more. Runoff may lead to ponding of water in low lying areas and areas of poor drainage.
