Severe Weather Update: March 6, 2026

Here is an update concerning the severe weather threat Saturday night:

WHAT: MARGINAL RISK of Severe Weather

WHEN: Saturday night

WHERE: Southeast Louisiana and southern Mississippi to the west of a line running from Galliano to Chalmette to Bay Saint Louis.

CONFIDENCE: We are confident that thunderstorms will occur across the area, with a few becoming strong to marginally severe.  We have less confidence in the exact location where those strong/severe storms will occur.

Impacts: The main threats with any severe storms will be:

  • Wind gusts greater than 60 mph are possible.
  • Winds of this magnitude can damage trees and power lines, leading to isolated/scattered power outages.
  • Large hail up to 1 inch in diameter will be possible.
  • Hail of this size can damage crops and injure people and animals.
  • In addition to the severe weather threat, rainfall of up to an inch is forecast.
  • Runoff may lead to ponding of water in low-lying areas and areas with poor drainage.
