Severe Weather Update: March 11, 2026

Here is an update concerning the severe weather threat today into early tomorrow morning:

 

Changes from previous update:

  • The area of greatest threat has expanded southward.
  • A slight risk of heavy rainfall has been added along and north of a line roughly from Baton Rouge to Hammond to Bogalusa.

 

WHAT: SLIGHT RISK of Severe Weather. MARGINAL RISK to SLIGHT RISK of Heavy Rain that could lead to flash flooding.

 

WHEN: This evening into the early morning hours Thursday

 

WHERE: All of southeast Louisiana and south Mississippi

 

CONFIDENCE: 

  • We have moderate to high confidence there will be a line of thunderstorms that will cross the area Wednesday afternoon into early morning Thursday. We have low confidence of any embedded storms in the line becoming severe.
  • We have less confidence that this line of storms will result in any heavy rainfall/flash flooding

 

IMPACTS: The main threats associated with any severe storms will be:

  • Wind gusts greater than 60 mph are possible.
  • Large hail of up to 1 inches in diameter will be possible.
  • A few brief tornadoes are possible.
  • Runoff will lead to ponding of water in low lying areas and areas of poor drainage. Isolated flash flooding is possible in areas with the heaviest rain.
