NEW ORLEANS—Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller was on hand with a group of regional leaders Tuesday as FEMA and Audacy’s WWL-AM/FM unveiled its all-hazards upgrade to the station’s “Primary Entry Point” facility in New Orleans.
Miller and fellow parish presidents from across the region were on hand for a live demonstration of the facility’s newly modernized studio. These improvements are expected to increase WWL’s resiliency to continue broadcasting in all conditions, including natural disasters and acts of terrorism.
“When our community faces a weather emergency, we rely on our local media to help spread the word and get valuable information to our citizens. WWL is a longtime regional partner in helping us reach our residents, and we are excited to see them hardening their infrastructure so they can continue to serve our entire region,” Miller said, adding that these improvements are especially important as we approach the peak of hurricane season.
WWL is the 15th radio station in the country to work with FEMA to complete the all-hazards upgrade, which includes increased sheltering capabilities, expanded broadcast capacity, and sustainable power generation for all types of hazardous events.
The WWL facility is one of 77 across the country to serve as a National Public Warning System Primary Entry Point station. They work in partnership with FEMA to provide emergency alert and warning information to the public before, during, and after incidents and disasters.
