  1. GasBuddy gasoline demand data shows a strong Monday, with gasoline demand up 7.74% from the Monday prior. It’s the highest Monday demand since 3/16 and up 18.66% from the lowest Monday (4/6). It is expected that as states reopen, growing consumer gas demand will serve as an early indicator of recovery.
    1. Based on current trajectory it is estimated that 70-75% of demand to return in the next 6 months
    2. 15-20% taking 6-12 months beyond that
    3. 5-15% of demand returning a period longer than 12 months
    4. 5-10% of demand may exit the marketplace permanently
  2. Pork processing capacity is reduced by approximately 46% which adds approximately 230,000 animals to the overstock amount each day. The reduction includes reopening two plants at limited capacity, decreased reductions at five plants, increased reductions at five plants, closures at two plants, and mechanical issues at one plant.
  3. May and June are still forecasted to see flat or declining import volumes exacerbated by lack of consumer demand for certain goods as well as blank sailings that diminish import capacity by 16% to the east coast and 20% to the west coast.

Private payrolls hemorrhaged more than 20 million jobs in April as companies sliced workers amid a coronavirus-induced shutdown that took most of the U.S. economy offline, according to a report Wednesday from ADP. In all, the decline totaled 20,236,000 – easily the worst loss in the survey’s history going back to 2002 but not as bad as the 22 million that economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been expecting. The previous record was 834,665 in February 2009 amid the financial crisis and accompanying Great Recession.

Community banks shine in PPP, reap new business as a result. According to national reports, banks with under $10 billion in assets approved about 60% of loans in the first round of the PPP. The smallest banks performed even better: Those with $1 billion or less in assets approved nearly 20% of loan dollars. Citizens Bank Senior Vice President Jim Purgeson attributes the success of community banks like his to their ability to be nimble, and he says it’s paying off in new customers like Covalent Logic. https://www.businessreport.com/newsletters/community-banks-shine-in-ppp-reap-new-business-as-a-result
