As of noon (12:00 PM) today, Louisiana has 23,118 diagnosed cases, 1,213 deaths and 1,868 patients hospitalized (363 requiring ventilators) associated with the outbreak. There have been 131,987 tests completed. All data is available at www.ldh.la.gov/coronavirus.
Governor Edwards: “Social distancing data shows Louisiana is below average when compared to other states. We can do better than that. Stay home and stop the spread.”
Severe Weather Outlook. The National Weather Service is tracking the potential for showers and thunderstorms Sunday (April 19, 2020) afternoon and evening. There is an Enhanced Risk probability for the area north and along the I-10 corridor. All modes of severe weather will be possible with damaging wind gusts the main hazard, although large hail and tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

LOUISIANA TO AWARD NEARLY $10 MILLION IN FEDERAL FUNDING TO CHILD CARE PROVIDERS IMPACTED BY PUBLIC HEALTH CRISIS. The Louisiana Department of Education today announced it would award nearly $10 million in federal funding to child care providers to offset the financial impacts of the ongoing Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak. The funding is intended to support early learning sites to stay open and provide care to the children of essential personnel or to reopen after this unprecedented time. Child care providers interested in receiving this financial assistance must complete an application (will open in new tab) by April 23. Louisiana Small Business Loan Guarantee Program.While SBA may have expended all funding appropriated by Congress, Louisiana’s state based program is still open for business. Time and again, Louisianans reach out and help their neighbors in times of crisis. The Loan Portfolio Guaranty Program is an example of that service. Governor Edwards has received commitments from banks and credit unions across the state that have agreed to help Louisiana’s small businesses recover from the COVID-19 crisis.
