Heavy Rain Update: Friday, September 6, 2024

Good morning Tangi,

Click HERE and HERE  for an update concerning the heavy rain threat today into tonight.

Overview:

WHAT: MODERATE RISK of Heavy Rain that could lead to flash flooding.  A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for areas along and south of the I-10/12 corridor through Saturday morning.  A Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 7 AM this morning, but it will be allowed to expire as the coastal flooding threat diminishes today.

WHEN: Today into tonight

WHERE:  All of Southeast Louisiana and Coastal Mississippi, but the greatest threat will be for locations along and south of the I-10/12 corridor in Southeast Louisiana including portions of metro Baton Rouge and metro New Orleans.

CONFIDENCE:  We are confident there will be bands of heavier rainfall moving across portions of Southeast Louisiana and Coastal Mississippi today into tonight, and that these bands of heavier rainfall will produce localized street flooding concerns.

Impacts:

  • Additional rainfall of 2 to 4 inches is currently forecast. Locally higher amounts will be possible.
  • Rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour for brief periods of time (less than an hour) are expected to produce ponding of water in low lying areas and some potential for localized flash flooding.
