Heavy Rain Update: August 28, 2025

Here is an update concerning the heavy rain threat: 

  • There is a threat of heavy rainfall/flash flooding Friday and Friday night
  • The area of greatest threat is across southwest MS and the adjacent LA parishes

Overview:

WHAT: MARGINAL RISK and SLIGHT RISK of Heavy Rain that could lead to flash flooding

WHEN:  Friday and into Friday night

WHERE:  All of southeast LA and southern MS

CONFIDENCE:  We are confident there will be showers and thunderstorms across the area. We have less confidence that any of them will result in heavy rainfall/flash flooding

Impacts:

  • Rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is currently forecast. Locally higher amounts are expected. 
  • High rainfall rates will quickly lead to runoff with ponding of water in low lying areas and localized flash flooding.
