Heavy Rain Threat Update: December 9, 2024

Here is an update concerning the heavy rain threat this evening into Tuesday: 

WHAT: SLIGHT RISK of Heavy Rain that could lead to flash flooding. 

WHEN: All day, heaviest beginning mid morning, lasting into Tuesday.

WHERE: All of southeastern Louisiana and southern Mississippi. Focus for the risk of isolated areas of flash flooding will mainly be for southern/coastal SE LA and MS.

CONFIDENCE: We are confident in the occurrence of widespread showers and a few embedded thunderstorms now through Tuesday. Confidence in the risk for flooding has increased slightly for the areas outlooked in a Slight Risk. However, exact totals will vary by location depending on where training of heavier rain occurs. 

IMPACTS:

  • Rainfall of 2-3 inches is currently forecast for much of the area, with some potential for isolated rainfall totals exceeding 3-5 inches.
  • High rainfall rates could result in ponding of water in low lying areas and localized flash flooding.
