George Road Overlay Ready To Begin; Phase 2023 Road Work Continues

TICKFAW—Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller announced this week that overlay work on George Road west of Tickfaw is expected to begin in the next few weeks.

“We are ready to execute the contract, and overlay work on George Road will begin in the next few weeks,” Miller said.

After Hurricane Ida, a debris site was established on property off George Road. Over the course of the last year and a half, the roadway experienced heavy use, especially from the oversize debris trucks hauling downed trees and other hurricane damage from across the parish to the work site.

Now that the debris work is complete, the parish can redo the roadway, as planned, Miller said.

“This is welcome news for residents in that area who have been patiently waiting for this project to begin,” Tangipahoa Parish Councilman Carlo Bruno said.

The veteran councilman says the work could be completed as soon as the end of the year.

“We’ve had some really good weather, and I’m hoping it continues to cooperate so we can get this done before the holidays,” Bruno said.

In addition to the George Road overlay, the parish’s Phase 2023 overlay program is moving smoothly. Crews plan to work in the following areas during the week of August 21:

  • Paving: Snowball Circle Subdivision, Hollie, Loyd, Miller, West Portier Road, Tina Drive, Graceland, Recile, Corbin Road, and Oak Meadows Boulevard;
  • Dressing: Kay Drive, Happywoods Drive, South Magnolia, 2nd Avenue, Cherie Drive, Burton Street, Iever Street, M.C. Moore Road, West Dutch Lane, Hickory Drive, George Fisher Road, Cemetery Road, Pecan Allee, and Pecan Trace Drive.

All road work is weather-permitting. Detours will be posted, as necessary, and Miller encourages motorists to use care when traveling through work zones.
