AMITE—After more than six months of work, the final round of debris clean-up from Hurricane Ida will begin later this month.
Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller announced today that contractors will begin their final pass for hurricane debris on Friday, Feb. 18.
“This will be the final opportunity for Tangipahoa residents to take part in FEMA’s program to remove hurricane-related debris,” Miller said.
To be eligible for collection, debris must be placed in the public right-of-way in front of the property. Miller said contractors ask residents to sort debris and place it into separate piles, based on the content. For example, construction debris should be piled separately from tree and limb (vegetative) materials.
Debris removal monitors and contractors will inspect each roadway in the parish before completing this project. This is being done to ensure that all eligible debris is placed on the right-of-way by the Feb. 18 deadline.
Since collection began last September, contractors have picked up more than 3 million cubic yards of debris in Tangipahoa Parish, Miller said.
