Dense Fog Forecast for Overnight Wednesday, Early Thursday Morning

Here is an update concerning the dense fog tonight and tomorrow morning.

Overview:

  • Dense fog is possible again tonight and last into tomorrow morning.
  • Areas immediately downwind of the ongoing wildfire east of New Orleans have a greater risk of the smoke and fog mixing.

Hazards:

  • Areas with dense fog will see reduced visibilities down to 1/4 mile
  • Places where the smoke and fog mix could see visibilities as low as 100ft or less

Confidence:

We have less confidence in the more widespread dense fog tonight than last night. However, we are still highly confident that there will be impacts from dense fog and smoke immediately downwind of the wildfire in New Orleans East. We are also confident that the greatest impacts will likely be somewhere between I-510 and Irish Bayou, though the exact location is harder to predict since a small difference in wind direction could significantly alter the smoke dispersion.
