Tangipahoa Parish Rural Fire Protection District No. 2 (the “District”) was created in 1953 as  a component unit of Tangipahoa Parish Government.  The District is governed by a board of ten commissioners, all of whom are members of the Tangipahoa Parish Council.

The District was legally established under the authority of Louisiana Revised Statute  40:1502.12 for the purpose of providing fire protection and prevention services to the unincorporated areas of Tangipahoa Parish.

Funding for District operations is derived from (2) ad valorem taxes, each set at 10 mills, approved by the voters of the District. These revenues support equipment acquisition, facility maintenance, water supply for fire protection,  and emergency services throughout the District’s service area.

The Board of Commissioners meets once each month on the fourth Monday, following the Tangipahoa Parish Council meeting, at the Tangipahoa Parish Gordon A Burgess Governmental building, 206 East Mulberry Street, Amite, LA 70442.
