Severe Weather Update: March 12, 2025

Here is an update concerning the severe weather threat on Saturday, March 15th.

Changes from previous update:

  • The area of greatest threat has expanded to include all of the I-10/12 corridor.
  • Confidence continues to gradually increase regarding the threat of severe weather on Saturday.

The risk for severe weather on Saturday (3/15) has expanded southwest, indicating odds are increasing for scattered severe storms to develop ahead and along a cold front on Saturday. These storms will be capable of all hazards including large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes (a few of which could be strong).

Confidence:

  • We are confident there will be thunderstorms in the area. We have lower confidence in the number of strong to severe thunderstorms that develop in the area.
  • Confidence has increased for severe weather to occur along and north of the I-10/12 corridor.
  • Confidence is higher for locally heavy rainfall of up to 2-3 inches along and north of the I-10/12 corridor.
  • Confidence is medium that any severe storm that develops would be capable of all hazards including damaging winds, large hail, and tornadoes.

Current Forecast Timing: Since storms could develop ahead of the frontal system, the timeframe for this severe weather event is broad. Beginning mid morning on Saturday and continuing until the late evening hours when it finally departs coastal Mississippi.
