Tangipahoa Parish Issues Declaration of Emergency In Advance of Hurricane Francine

DECLARATION OF EMERGENCY

TANGIPAHOA PARISH

 

WHEREAS, the Parish of Tangipahoa has the potential to experience devastating effects as result of Hurricane FRANCINE and has the potential to impact the entire parish with heavy rain, damaging winds and flooding; and

WHEREAS, heavy rain, damaging winds and flooding; will cause significant damage to public and private property; and

WHEREAS, declaring a state of emergency will facilitate Tangipahoa Parish’s protection of persons and property from the impacts of the storm and expedite the use of parish resources, as well as the possibility of the deployment of state resources, to provide the necessary assistance to Tangipahoa Parish’s response and recovery efforts; and

WHEREAS, this declaration of emergency will facilitate the immediate procurement and deployment of goods and services necessary to ensuring a prompt and effective response to, and recover from, this storm; and

WHEREAS, this declaration of emergency will allow the Parish President to issue such emergency orders as are necessary to protect Tangipahoa Parish’s residents and ensure the health and safety and security of their property; and

WHEREAS, the Parish as a whole is in need of emergency actions and support to respond to the needs of the citizens of Tangipahoa Parish;

NOW THEREFORE, I, Charles Robert Miller, Jr., Tangipahoa Parish President, by the authority vested in me by the ordinances of the Parish of Tangipahoa, the Louisiana Disaster Act of 193, and any other acts which may prevail, do hereby proclaim that there now exists in Tangipahoa Parish a STATE OF EMERGENCY and that our Emergency Operations Plans be activated and the Dawson K. Primes LEM be hereby designated as the point of contact and can be reached at 985-748-3211 or 985-974-7977 or [email protected].

This proclamation of a STATE OF EMERGENCY is effective immediately and shall remain in effect until notice is given, pursuant to my judgment that the state of emergency no longer exists.
