LORANGER—Tangipahoa Parish is gearing up for a busy Saturday of volunteerism and fun for the grand finale of Love The Boot Week 2023.
Parish President Robby Miller said communities across Tangipahoa Parish are planning litter clean up events to mark Earth Day and Love the Boot Week.
“From Kentwood south, we have communities and neighborhoods working together to make Tangipahoa shine,” Miller said.
On Saturday, Tangipahoa Parish Government will host a rural clean up event in Loranger. Volunteers are asked to meet up at the Loranger Supermarket, located at 19520 LA 40, starting at 8 a.m. Miller said volunteers will work in teams to collect trash and spruce up the community.
Loranger volunteers will have an opportunity to participate in a special effort to turn some of the roadside trash into something new. Thanks to a pilot program by the Osprey Initiative and The Coca-Cola Company to support Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s Love the Boot Week, Loranger volunteers will be able to recycle #1 plastic bottles and aluminum cans that are collecting during the clean up event. Tangipahoa is one of only a few sites that was selected to participate in this program.
Across the parish, Love the Boot events are scheduled in Kentwood, Amite, Independence, Lucille Nesom Memorial School in Tickfaw, Hammond, and Ponchatoula.
Love the Boot is Louisiana’s statewide litter removal and beautification campaign which is designed to bring awareness to our state’s litter problem. In 2022, nearly 8,500 volunteers collected 293 tons of litter at 280 events across Louisiana.
