| New CDC Reopening Guidance
The CDC released new reopening guidance for cleaning and disinfecting public spaces, workplaces, businesses, schools, and homes. According to the CDC, this plan is part of President Trump’s Guidelines for Opening Up America Again, and it is intended for all Americans, whether you are a business owner, operate a school, or want to ensure cleanliness and safety of your own home.

President Trump Provides Additional Support to America’s Seniors
President Trump has taken decisive action to ensure our senior citizens remain safe and have access to the resources they need during the COVID-19 pandemic. President Trump recently announced that FEMA will send additional PPE to ALL 15,400 Medicaid and Medicare-certified nursing homes in America.
Additionally, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is providing $81 million from the CARES Act to states to increase nursing home inspections during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Important Reminder for VA and SSI Recipients
VA and SSI recipients who have a qualifying child and didn’t file a 2018 or 2019 tax return have a limited window to register to have $500 per eligible child added automatically to their $1,200 Economic Impact Payment. Please use the Non-Filers tool on IRS.gov by MAY 5th to register to have $500 per child added to your $1,200 Economic Impact Payment.
The House Must Get Back to Work
The American people are looking to their leaders for steady guidance, yet Speaker Pelosi and her House majority would rather draft bills in secret than lead our country’s reopening by showing that we can safely get back to work in Congress. Just as we’re watching essential workers in so many segments of our economy perform their jobs every day, we need Congress to start working again on the growing list of areas that need our focus, like holding China accountable for their failures to disclose the truth about this virus, as well as the need to bring America’s supply chain back from China so we don’t rely on them for PPE and so many key ingredients for life-saving drugs.
If President Trump and Senate Republicans can be in Washington working safely, there’s no reason for House Democrats to prevent us from doing the same.

Louisiana-based Ballard Brands is providing much-needed help to frontline health care workers and the New Orleans community to give back to the area as it fights COVID-19. They provided over 2,000 meals to frontline heroes at hospitals throughout the New Orleans region on April 19th, and, Ballard’s PJ’s Coffee brand provided over 500 cases of bottle latte and coffee products to health care workers across Southeast Louisiana.
Battelle’s Critical Care Decontamination Systems (CCDS) has been shipped to New Orleans. This is a game changer for hospitals and health care providers in our area, as this technology can sterilize used protective masks in hours.
