INDEPENDENCE—Finishing touches will begin this week on several of the latest Phase 22 overlay roads that are nearing completion across the parish.

Tangipahoa Parish President Robby Miller said “dressing” work will begin on Monday on several of the overlay projects completed in the last few weeks.

“Shoulder dressing is a process used to apply and compact approved dirt materials that prevent shoulder erosion after overlay is completed on each road,” Miller explained, adding that the process is critical to maintaining a quality road product.

As a result, motorists may see work trucks back in those areas where roadways were recently paved. In most cases, roadways will not need to be closed to traffic during this application process; however, he encouraged motorists to be patient as there may be delays while work is being completed.

Among the roadways scheduled for “dressing” work this week are:

– Monday, July 18: Fontana Road, Pine Street, Charles Sinagra, West Wilson Street, Maggio, and Black Cat;

– Tuesday, July 19: Lee Farm Road, Tantillo, T Hardy, and Western Avenue;

 Wednesday, July 20: North Wilson Street, Celia Avenue, West and East Green Street;

– Thursday, July 21: Natchez Street, Mooney Avenue, and South Elm Street;

On Friday, July 22, and Saturday, July 23, crews will be dressing Fern Street, Lee Farm Road, and West and East Bennett Lane.

In the Baptist area, RPC contractors will continue patching high-traffic roadways. Miller said crews plan to be working on North Baptist Road Monday through Wednesday and then move on to Rufus Bankston Road for the remainder of the week.

In other road work happening around the parish:

– Miller reminds residents in the Ponchatoula area that a portion of Wadesboro Road will be closed starting Monday as DOTD begins replacing a bridge near the I-55 Southwest Service Road. Work on that bridge project is expected to take several months.

 – Marilyn Drive in the Natalbany area will be closed from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., on Tuesday, July 19, while crews repair a cross drain. No traffic will be allowed in that area during the re-construction.

– Later in the week, Blyth Avenue off of Brown Road in Ponchatoula will be closed Friday, July 22, so parish crews can install a new cross drain. No traffic will be allowed in the construction zone until the repair is completed. Detours will be posted.
