Carolyn Falgout

Carolyn Kass Falgout is no stranger when it comes to hard work. She grew up on a dairy farm on Barataria Blvd. in Marrero, Louisiana. As a child, she was involved in her family’s cattle operation, Westside Oyster Farms, and she also got into barrel racing after her father forbid her to do it. Carolyn still retains her ties to the oyster business, farming over 2,000 acres of oyster .

Carolyn Kass Falgout beds annually. She is noted for her efforts to establish a federally funded insurance program for oyster growers, who now have the same benefits and protections that land farmers receive. In the early 1980’s she and her husband, Linny, moved to Amite, Louisiana from Westwego. With encouragement and assistance from friends and family they started K-Bar Farms.

Throughout its history of breeding and showing cattle, K-Bar Farms has produced many champions. Their first major accolade came during the 1999-2000 show season when they traveled to California and claimed the title of National Reserve Junior Champion Gray Female with KF MS Siete Didor who went on to win the American Brahman Breeders Association (ABBA) Show Cow of the Year. K-Bar Farms is also the first to produce a two-time ABBA Show Bull of the Year, KB MR Progeny’s success in 2002 and 2003, who then sired another two-time ABBA Show Bull of the Year, KF Mr. Passport Success in 2010 and 2011. Carolyn has risen to become a very recognizable face in the Brahman Community. She currently serves as an ABBA Director; she is also past president of both the Louisiana Brahman Association and the Tangipahoa Cattleman’s Association. She also chairs The Tangipahoa Cattlemen Association Junior Beef Livestock Buckle Show, which she initiated in 2008 with the support of the Association and the Florida Parishes Arena.

When she is not showing or judging cattle shows she is either attending meetings all over the state involving the oyster business, Farm Bureau, and soil conservation; or she is traveling aboard to share her love of the Brahman breed with other cultures and communities. She has traveled to Mexico, Columbia, Argentina, Ecuador, Brazil, Australia, and Thailand. Carolyn was the first woman to ever judge a cattle show in Thailand. With the help of her friend Medda Success, KF Progeny’s Success has become the premier herd sire for genetics in Thailand.

Anyone who knows Ms. Carolyn knows how much she loves to cook. Before she moved to Amite she owned and operated My Grill, a popular restaurant in Westwego. She has competed in the “Bridge City Gumbo Champion Cook-off’ and more than once has swept the board winning first place in the Seafood, Chicken, and overall Gumbo Champion Divisions.

Carolyn played a large part in promoting Amite as the location of the Florida Parishes Arena. To this day she lobbies for grants for outdoor classrooms and other programs to enhance the Arena.
