Tropical Weather Update – Aug 12, 2022

Click HERE for an update concerning potential tropical cyclone development in the Gulf of Mexico.

Changes from the previous update:

  • Gulf disturbance could develop along a surface trough over the northern gulf.

Overview:

Regardless of any development, the interaction between the surface trough and the potential disturbance will keep a high coverage of showers/storms over the area but mostly along and just inland of the coast. Some of these activities could bring some very heavy downpours.

Confidence:

There is high confidence that we will continue to see a high coverage of showers/storms into the weekend with high rain rates. There is a low chance (10%) of a tropical cyclone forming in the next 5 days and if it does, the general motion is expected to be westward toward the Texas coast.

Impacts:

High rainfall rates may cause isolated areas to experience poor drainage and urban flooding within a short time.
