Here is an update concerning the heavy rain threat today and this evening. A frontal boundary early this morning extended from near Natchez to Hammond to Chandeleur Sound: Isolated thunderstorms with heavy rain were occurring to the north of the frontal boundary.
WHAT: MARGINAL RISK to SLIGHT RISK of Heavy Rain that could lead to flash flooding
WHEN: Mainly this afternoon and evening
WHERE: Mainly northeast of a line from New Roads to Hammond to Slidell.
CONFIDENCE: Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected north of the frontal boundary this morning with redevelopment possible during the afternoon hours. A few will produce heavy rainfall. With ground that is still fairly wet from last week’s flooding, there is potential for localized flash flooding.
IMPACTS:
- Rainfall rates of 2 inches per hour are expected with the strongest storms.
- High rainfall rates will quickly lead to runoff with ponding of water in low lying areas and localized flash flooding.
