Here is an update on the extreme heat advisory for today (Wednesday, July 30)
WHAT: A Heat Advisory is in effect for potentially dangerous heat with heat index values up to 112 degrees
HEN: 11am-7pm today. Tomorrow’s potential for heat advisory is uncertain due to increasing rain chances.
WHERE: Most of southeast LA and southern MS
CONFIDENCE: Less confident than previous days due to cloud cover and developing showers/storms.
Impacts: Increased risk of heat-related illness, including:
- Heat exhaustion, heat stroke, dehydration….especially with a heat index greater than 108°F
- High overnight lows limit recovery, compounding risk over successive days
- Strain on vulnerable populations: Elderly, young children, outdoor workers, and those without access to A/C most at risk
