Here is an update concerning the ongoing heat threat. Additional advisories or warnings will be possible through Wednesday:
WHAT: Potentially dangerous heat with heat index values up to 115 degrees. An Extreme Heat Warning has been issued for locations around the lakes and Mississippi Gulf Coast. Away from these areas a Heat Advisory has been issued for the remainder of the region.
WHEN: 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Tuesday
WHERE: All of southeast LA and southern MS
CONFIDENCE: We are confident hot temperatures and high humidity values will occur leading to potential heat related illnesses, especially those working outdoors.
Impacts: Increased risk of heat-related illness, including:
- Heat exhaustion, heat stroke, dehydration….especially with HI greater than 108°F
- High overnight lows limit recovery, compounding risk over successive days
- Strain on vulnerable populations
- Elderly, young children, outdoor workers, and those without access to A/C most at risk
