Tangi Alert - This is an emergency notification program will provide residents with alerts about any hazardous event. Messages will be sent to residents on their preferred contact paths - cell phone, SMS, home phone, email, fax, pager and more - to ensure real-time access to potentially lifesaving information.

Tangipahoa Emergency Preparedness - The Tangipahoa Parish Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness (TPOHSEP) is the coordinating agency for emergency and disaster activities.

The Louisiana Housing Corporation (LHC) has launched Keys for Service, a first-of-its-kind homeownership assistance program, to provide down payment and closing cost assistance for active, full-time law enforcement officers, firefighters, paramedics, and certified teachers. The program supports LHC’s mission to ensure every Louisiana resident is granted an opportunity to obtain safe, affordable, energy-efficient housing. “The Keys for Service Program is our way to give back to our state’s heroes who work tirelessly to care for our children and protect our communities,” said LHC’s Executive Director, Joshua G. Hollins. “Providing down payment and closing cost assistance for our teachers and first responders will offer some of the financial relief and support they need to make homeownership a reality.” Eligible borrowers will receive 4% down payment assistance based on a 30-year mortgage term. If borrowers choose to pay off the loan amount early, there is no prepayment penalty; however, borrowers may be subject to paying back their down payment and closing cost assistance. Interested borrowers must be an active, full-time employee of a city, parish, or state law enforcement agency; an active, full-time firefighter or licensed paramedic; or an active, full-time teacher with a Louisiana teaching certification. The maximum annual household income for borrowers is $110,000. Borrowers do not have to be first-time homebuyers, but they must certify that the property they are interested in purchasing is their primary residence and they do not own additional residential property. “Our educators and first responders play pivotal roles in shaping and caring for our communities, and at the end of the day, they deserve a safe and affordable place to call home,” said Hollins. The Louisiana Housing Corporation will hold a public meeting this Thursday afternoon for the Rental Restoration and Development Program (RRDP). The RRDP program supports the repair, reconstruction, or new construction of residential rental units in areas impacted by several weather events, including Hurricane Ida.

Here is an update concerning Tropical Storm Laura and Tropical Storm Marco.

Changes from previous update: 

  • There are minor changes in forecast tracks for both storms, and an upward adjustment of the maximum winds of Laura. Tropical Storm Laura's track has shifted slightly west in the north Gulf of Mexico and at landfall in south central Louisiana. Self-Serve Sandbag Stations Open At Noon On Saturday, Aug. 22

As forecasters continue to track the progress of two tropical weather systems heading toward the Gulf, Tangipahoa Parish Government will open self-serve sandbag locations at fire stations throughout the parish starting at noon on Saturday, Aug. 22.
